Math Curriculum
The Time To Know math program covers the content standards as well as the process standards defined by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM)—problem solving, reasoning and proof, communication, connection, and representation—which are used to frame the presentation of content.
Many lessons are based on real-world problems that students solve by applying the concepts and skills taught in the current lesson and in previous lessons. Problem solving is also formally addressed in several lessons, with questioning strategies for both teacher-guided and independent learning that encourage reasoning.
Each grade-appropriate, year-long math curriculum is made up of over 80 lesson segments, each lasting 120 minutes.
Practice and Learning System (PAL)
Learning is enhanced with the Time To Know Practice and Learning System (PAL), which provides individualized skills practice through incremental sequencing. PAL is designed to complete each student’s foundational knowledge of mathematics skills.
Math lessons are fully aligned to state standards and include:
- Learning activities that build a constructivist learning environment through group, teacher-led, and individual work
- Instructional games that relate to the concept taught in the segment
- Interactive Rich Exploration Applets that deepen students' understanding
- Guided discussion to help teachers motivate and summarize lesson segment concepts
- Instructional video clips to introduce, elaborate, or reinforce concepts
- Built-in real-time assessment and assessment activities
- Standards review that helps prepare students for benchmarks and standardize testing
Mathematics Rich Exploration Applets
The applets are embedded in the lessons to help students build understanding by exploring, conjecturing, making inferences, and creating. Examples include:
